Tips for reopening

IMG's guide to keeping your staff and customers safe

Top tips to help you reopen your doors and welcome people back into a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Moving to step 4 of the roadmap - Government Guidelines

With the relaxation of Covid-19 rules and guidelines now in place. UK Governments have outlined ways in which businesses can keep their workplace safe and lower the risk from Covid-19.

Specific guidance (England) is available for: Construction and Outdoor work, Events and Visitor Attractions, Hotels and Guest Accomodation, Offices, factories and labs, Restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs, Shops and other close contact services

Employers and others must continue to follow statutory health and safety requirements, conduct a risk assessment, and take reasonable steps to manage risks in their workplace or setting.

Carry out a risk assessment

A large section of all UK government guidelines outline the importance of a reinforced cleaning process, where high points of contact should be paid close attention to, these include door handles, keyboards, lifts, bannisters etc…

If you have not already done this, carry out a risk assessment of the workplace and create a plan for enhanced sanitisation. Ensure your team know and understand your cleaning protocols.

Think about how you can communicate your hygiene practices to staff, visitors and customers – do you need to make this information available in different languages?
Have you considered accessibility, i.e. for those who are visually impaired?

Our vast range of disinfectant and virus defence products, such as Virakill, ensure objects and surfaces remain clean and protected.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the workplace

With the relaxation of restrictions, the wearing of facemasks in the workplace is now a recommendation rather than a legal requirement.

Businesses should ensure that, if personal protection equipment is no longer required, workplaces should be sanitised frequently with high-quality, effective products.

Remove unnessesary clutter from workplaces and the government recommends surfaces such as desks are sanitised twice a day, more if lots of people are using the same space.

Ensure communal areas are sanitised frequently and staff should not share crockery or eating utensils.

Government advice is to used a sanitiser that kills enveloped viruses. Virakill eradicates all Coronaviruses, including SARS-Cov-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) it also kills E.coli, MRSA and Salmonella.

Virakill works to kill bacteria in 30 seconds, and continues to protect the surface for up to 8 days after use*. Virakill has been lab-tested to kill 99.99% of bacteria and germs under European standards EN1276 and EN14476. It is also safe to use on skin and it is also material tested, making it the perfect disinfectant for face masks and soft furnishings. More here

Update your cleaning protocols and train staff

It is not just the responsibility of the business to ensure the work place remains safe and risk free, staff must also understand the importance of protecting themselves and others around them.

Ensure your team know and understand the sanitisation protocols. Take them through any changes and ensure that this information is readily available to them. This will also help your team members communicate confidently to external visitors and customers what safety measures are in place and why.

High-quality and effective products should be used and you should plan for sufficent supplies.

Upgrading of sanitisation equipment can lower risk substantially. Virakill can be used in fogging machines and a pressure pump spray is also available. We also supply hand sanitiser dispensers.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport trust Virakill to keep their visitors and staff safe.

After rigorous independent testing, Virakill was selected for the airport's enhanced cleaning regime.

Ensure Workplace Product Compliance

When putting a cleaning and safety system in place, we must ensure the correct products are used and situated around the work place.

If you are an employer then you have a duty of care to your employees to make sure the products used in their workplace are safe and meet CLP standards. This regulation is enforced by the Health and Safety Executive and Trading Standards.

A number of our disinfectant products are safe to use on surfaces and skin, alongside independent tests proven to kill and protect against bacteria and viruses.

Every IMG product has a full technical data sheet, outlining the use and application of the product, along with key features and benefits.

To ensure you are fully supported, our team provide professional and technical insight into each product. Simply contact a member of our sales team or our onsite Chemist, Lauren Bain, to answer any queries.

Plan for adequate sanitisation supplies

Preparation for a return to the workplace must include planning for sufficient supplies of sanitisation and cleaning products to keep the work place and staff continually protected.

Stock check what you have currently and anticipate future stock required based on usage under your enhanced cleaning regime. Items to consider include registered disinfectants, hand hygiene products, disposable wipes, cleaning products, paper towels, waste bags, toilet paper, PPE, and any cleaning tools.

Here at IMG we pride ourselves on the support we provide our customers to ensure they are fully advised on products, lead times, and reordering stock. Simply contact a member of our sales team, who would be happy to assist you further.

Put an auditing system in place for sanitisation

You’ve carried out a risk assessment, created an enhanced sanitisation process and communicated this all clearly to your team and customers.

To ensure standards remain high and staff and visitors feel safe returning, we must continually check that procedures are being followed, adequate supplies are available and staff have access to the relevant infomation.

Auditing checklist:

  • Are we practicing enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures?
  • Are our procedures frequently adhered to?
  • Do we have the right amount of product on stock?
  • Do we use effective products for each cleaning and disinfection task?
  • Are staff sufficiently trained and regularly reminded about cleaning procedures?
